I like to use elements that people can easily relate to.  It's one of the reasons text often finds its way into my work.   I have always been drawn to words, their power to heal and to hurt, to be innocently conveyed and at times grossly misunderstood. While I "mince" the words in a thinly veiled attempt to obscure their meaning appearing as disjointed words and unfinished thoughts all seemingly jumbled together, each piece is intended to be like a conversation.

Recently other materials have become a constant in my work - patterns and maps.  They are collaged and painted, layer on top of layer.  It's the opposite of pealing back the onion.  It's about accepting our complexity, and acknowledging the places we thought we go (but perhaps missed) and the roles we thought we’d wear (but maybe didn’t). While there is certain precision and deliberateness in putting the pieces together there is an organic element to the process that truly determines what each painting will look like.
